How I Get My Husband To Do Dishes

Mentoring, Recruiting

When I wash dishes, I fill the whole sink up with warm, soapy water.  I wash all the dishes first, then rinse them individually as I place them one-at-a-time on my bamboo drying rack.

My husband takes a different approach.  He washes each dish with a soap-filled scrub brush, rinses it right then and there, and then places it on the drying rack.  Then, he starts the process again with the next dish.

Lather, rinse, repeat, until the chore is done.

Clearly, I conserve more water when I do dishes.

But if you asked Patrick, he would proudly state that his method is “the right way”.  Isn’t that cute?

But whose method is truly better?  Consider that the result is nearly identical.

Last week you read about how the Merceds Benz’ CEO was attacked by shareholders.

And if you finished the post (thanks Jeanette and Lesly!), you understood that I was:

a) kidding

and

b) making a point about why to track your ratios in your small business.

My mentor always explained that the “why” is more important than the “how”.

This means that why we do something is more critical than how it gets done.

And this is why I never offer suggestions while Patrick is washing the dishes.

Similarly, I am open to hearing how others track their numbers.  You’ve heard the “why”… now here’s my “how”:

We all learn from each other, and if you save more water and offer a faster drying time, I’d love to adopt your method!

So let’s hear how YOU track your numbers.  Please comment below…

I understand why your business is growing the way it has, you have very solid tools in place. I’ve never tracked my connections on a spread however it sounds like it would be a good business decision to do. It really would make the people that are serious about working a business accountable.

    Melissa,
I’ve been terrible at tracking, though I’ve finally got Google Analytics working and know my mailing list stats, who opens, who clicks through. It’s a start. Thanks for inspiring me to go deeper into it though. Love the analogy with your husband and the dishes.
    Thanks so much,

that’s great that you’re monitoring those numbers. i have a feeling your biz is a bit different than the average network marketer, so you’re probably waaaay ahead of the pack just by looking at those ratios! =)
