I’m on a time management kick and I can’t stop!

In fact, my time management skills have helped me achieve elite status with my favorite airline, and this short vid will tell you how I do it!

Take a look…

I’m incredibly embarrassed that I sounded like a chipmunk… I have a new Flip and haven’t exactly figured it out yet (clearly!).

I leaving for vacation today, so re-editing the video is not on the top of my “To Do” list.

Packing, however, is on my list, as you surely would have guessed…!

But the net net is: don’t waste time taking action!  Instead, take less time to complete each action.

What do you think?  Agree or disagree?  I’d love to hear!

Thanks for commenting below… and have a great holiday weekend (it’s almost Labor Day here in the states!)

Ok you didn’t sound too much like a chipmunk but there was a voice/picture syncing delay which made it awfully amusing!!

Great tip though. Just goes to prove that 30minutes of focused work, especially if the deadline is near to give added impetus, will beat weeks of ‘preparing’ and basically, farting around.

Have to agree that thinking and mulling it over does waste more time than just getting down and doing it! Although good enough doesn’t always work for me, I am getting better at not having to be perfect! I certainly don’t’ like to be rushed. I will have to work on giving myself less time to do things! Cheers, Holly

    Aloha Melissa,

It’s the first time I haven’t seen a picture perfect video from you…it matches the topic you were talking about.

I totally agree with you, I used to spend hours, sometimes days preparing and worrying about leading a call or speaking etc. The key is just trust yourself! You know what you are talking about and you’ll do fine. It saves so much time and honestly most of the time, it turns out better than if it was planned minute by minute.

Thank you Melissa! Have a great vacation!

    Aloha,

Great video Message. I agree for most thing I find just sitting down and getting it down so I am not thinking to much about it. But sometimes for trips a need a few days to think about what I need to take. Thank you for the great reminder, as I have been doing to many of a lot of things that really need to get done.

My personal motto is “Work Smarter Not Harder”. And I totally agree with you, spending time mulling too much over a project is a waste of time. Take a cut on it and see how it goes. I also believe on delegation. It does not only get the job done faster but definitely lightens your load. Train well and delegate has definitely worked well for me.

Too much preparation is a form of procrastination. The video was funny. What happened to voice sync? I hate calling people and I do mull over it and I know I shouldn’t. It always feels so much better to just do it even if they just so no or not now. Hope you trip was great.

Great advice! This is something I definitely need to work on. I sometimes spend weeks preparing for something…I tend to over think things.

I totally agree. Just enough time to get the task done. I know someone who spends way too much time on one thing and neglects important stuff.

Yep! I’m an overthinking, perfectionistic procrastinator! Most of the time, I have to talk myself off the ledge and just say do it! The world didn’t end because you didn’t redo your video — as a matter of fact as someone else said, it went with your topic as well. I think we could all be a little less stressed out if we followed your tips. Thanks for making me think. I hope you’re enjoying your vacation. Missed you on Monday. :)

Melissa, Great time management tips! I did read Tim Ferriss’s book “The Four Hour Workweek”, what a great book!
Your post title really grabbed my attention because I happen to work for United Airlines, so I’m glad your getting to the gate on time!
You did a great job with your video, and I don’t think you sounded like a chipmunk. I too just bought a flip camera, and so far I really like it!

    Hey Melissa:

There is definitely something you need to figure out with your new camera. Your video was about 20 seconds behind your audio, which was kind of amusing. You were very understandable though, and that’s the important thing.

Are you trying to tell me that there are people who actually plan and expend energy getting ready to do things? :) That’s definitely not my style. And, while I’m sure I tend to drive some people crazy, I get things done right on time, without all the extra stress and worry.

Thanks for telling me I’m not crazy, lazy, or alone…

    Hi Melissa,

I enjoyed your video. Probably just my download but very amusing as the lip sync was off. I know, I’m easily pleased… You had some good point there. I’m a fan of the good enough approach. I don’t know if you’ve read Rework? I can’t remember the authors but it’s really good for cutting out the garbage and getting to it.

Hope you had a great vacation.

    Hi Melissa

Great job! You are so right. We over analyze, and plan way too much. That is why we are such a stress driven society!! I know if we would be more spontaneous and just move to action at the moment we are thinking about a needed task, we would get a lot more accomplished. The other side to the coin is that we jump into the water without putting ANY thought into the mechanics, and then end up with a poor result. So I like your idea, give it sufficient planning time, like you mentioned with your Monday call…perfect!

Great video, great tip to do it “just in time” which I think the Japanese created for inventory management. Makes sense and definitely easier to do it than think about it. Of course, I have to do my taxes this weekend :(

    Hey Melissa,

You do sound like a chipmunk. :)

I can say that with a laugh because I had the same problem with my Flip. Your Flip records in a MP4 format and does not convert properly when editing. I see this all the time on people’s videos.

I was using Windows Movie Make to edit and it doesn’t convert the video. So I purchased a software to convert my Flip videos called iOrgSoft. I am sure there are many more, but this one worked for me.

Great video! That is one of my main problems is sticking to one task at a time. If you can do one thing at a time and move on. It would make life so much easier.

Thanks for sharing and if you have any trouble with your Flip, Skype me or send me a message!
