Welcome Back! Hey, Did You Change Your Hair? Please Share What You've Learned By Commenting Below! ...And Be Sure To Get My Video Series "6 Figures In 5 Days" To Teach You The Network Marketing FUNdamentals You Need To Know! -->
If you had a choice, would you prefer to learn how to play basketball from Michael Jordan or from a benchwarmer on your local high school junior varsity team?
The answer is obvious: Michael Jordan would offer much more ability, knowledge, and experience as a coach than a teenage amateur.
The same goes for your home-based business. There is tremendous value in learning a skill from someone who has already mastered it.
Many multi-level companies offer mentoring or coaching, and you want to be taught by someone who has proven success and isn’t just “figuring it out”. You do not need to be signed up by the top income earner in your company to make it in your business, but you will benefit by having access to other successful distributors that are willing to work with you.
(Allow me to reiterate this last point: you may get signed up by someone who just started the same business yesterday! But to be successful quickly, be sure that you have easy access to a successful business partner within that company.)
A saying that I learned from my mentor is: “The quickest way to success is to model success.” This is a great explanation of how network marketing works. You do not need to be a business whiz to be successful if you allow your mentor to lead the way while you willingly follow.
So go forth, find someone that is successful, do what they do, and you will have what they have!
Here’s a quick vid I ripped on the subject…
So rest assured that you don’t need to be incredible to build an organization and a career level income with your business. BUT, you do need to leverage the team and the structure in place by plugging into the successful people.
And if your sponsor is not growing his or her business and teaching you how to do the same, just look upline to find someone who is. There are people in your organization that will help you. (And if they aren’t… may I suggest looking for another opportunity?!?)
So who is YOUR mentor? What have you learned from them?
Thank you for commenting below, and for Tweeting this to your network. You ROCK!

Melissa, you’re SPOT ON when you say, Are you willingly to follow?!
It’s ingrained in our heads that if you consider yourself a leader but are having lackluster results then you need to rethink that notion of ‘being a leader.’ But guess what?! Everything is learned….well there are some natural human reflexes/responses but for the most part it’s a learning experience. There are people that, due to their personal and enriched experiences, are more likely to hone certain leadership characteristics and so LOOK the part but there’s the question of posture too.
With that posture comes the realization that sometimes leading has to take a back seat and following would enhance and benefit you, your business, and your loyal followers. Whoever said that followers did not hold power or credibility had a limited mindset. Sometimes you just got to follow to learn the ropes and be the leader that you are and is screaming to get out! That was a powerful expert (Michael Jordan) vs. novice (bench-warmer in varsity team) analogy! It sure makes you think about mentorship and leardership!

miriam, i SO appreciate your thoughtful comments. i love what you said: “whoever said that followers did not hold power or credibility had a limited mindset.” BRILLIANT! one guy in my organization says, “if you lead from the front and turn around, but no one is following you, you are just out for a walk!” how important it is to learn from the back before jumping in the driver’s seat!

Hi Melissa,
You are right on in your video Melissa. That is some great advice here. I personally have access to some great mentors. There is Gerry Schroeder (5 star Master Distributor) and Clayton both my direct up-line. It is so important to be able to hear you mentor talk and get to be able to repeat the way they explain the business to your prospect until you are ready to do the same and in your turn help your partners in your organization.
Become the leader people are counting on and your business will grow tremendously! Thanks Melissa!

thanks nathalie! i do think it’s important to have access to direct mentors. i’m reading “the answer” by john assaraf, and he m entions that he trained with bob proctor, who trained with earl nightingale. geesh, it’s like these guys all learned from each other! i guess no one does it alone…
